My latest experiment – sticky hair, carbonized cedar (yakisugi), and oxidized copper. I also recorded the music and sound design.

I've always been deeply inspired by Japanese aesthetics, and this piece was an attempt to exercise the principles of wabi sabi. Implicit forms floating in emptiness, with only brief slivers of light to signal their movement. The copper ribbons were intentionally lit in such a way to conceal their material existence, and in doing so, highlight their essence through sound and intrigue.

"What lies within the darkness one cannot distinguish, but the palm senses the gentle movements […] A moment of mystery, it might almost be called, a moment of trance."

- Jun'ichirō Tanizaki, In Praise of Shadows

SOUND

I recorded the music and foley using small instruments and household items. The music was arranged in a deliberately sparse way in order to let the object "breathe" and the tackiness of the hair to take center stage.
